2018 Sep 21-23 Crankie Festival

Nathan was teaching throat singing on Sunday afternoon at The First Annual Winnipeg Crankie Festival…

Remember those old fisher price toy TV sets? That is essentially how a crankie works… it takes a flow of visual images and winds them from one spool to another through a lighted box, turning the one spool with a crank to draw the banner from one to the next.

This interactive and collaborative festival was organized by Leonard Podolak as part of the Home Routes FolkSchool. There were plenty of local and international performers, participatory workshops and jams (including a build-your-own crankie workshop).  And on the last day of the festival there was a Nathan Rogers performance and a throat singing workshop!
